Cocoon SDA Care Melbourne Disability Expo and Ambassador tour

Marathon Month!

Well, to say that I have been busy this month is an understatement! I have travelled to the other side of the world and completed two Marathon Majors during the month of April. Boston was first. It was a cold, wet morning. I came in 6th place in a time of 1.56, despite suffering hypothermia. Boston is a course full of rolling hills. I am light but strong, so this type of course plays to my strengths. Unfortunately the cold does not. This is where mental toughness comes in to play. I certainly needed every ounce of it to get me across the line in this race.
Six days later I backed up for London Marathon. London is a predominately flat course, which makes it harder for lighter athletes to maintain maximum speed and momentum. I placed 11th in a time of 1.51. In the history of our sport, the women’s wheelchair marathon field has never been deeper or stronger. I am so privileged to be able to race with these women. They are incredible humans, both on and off the track.

Milestone Moment!

A huge happy 10th birthday to Cocoon SDA Care! This month the team celebrated ten years of hard work to get Cocoon where it is today. Ten years of accessible accomodation, great care, and great services. Ten years of helping people towards independence, and achieving their
goals.
If the last ten years is anything to go by, the next ten are going to be even more amazing. Happy birthday Cocoon and keep up the great work!

Out & About

Cocoon SDA Care was out and about in Melbourne recently, represented with a stall at the Melbourne Disability Connection Expo, held in late April. The opportunity allowed Cocoon staff to interact directly with service participants, connecting them with SDA or SIL in particular local areas, providing an invaluable community link.

Congratulations!

A special mention to Cocoons National Lead Trainer & Assessor Carl O’Neill for receiving the National Medal for Service. The honour is a prestigious one, recognising the dedication and commitment to serving community and protecting the lives and property of others. Congratulations Carl!
