John moved into one of Cocoon SDA Care residences in South Australia in poor physical health. Prior to his move, he had been living in an aged care facility where he slept a lot and lived on two-minute noodles and macaroni and cheese. He had no freedom to experiment with foods and lost all enjoyment with his dietary intake.
Our team jumped to work, educating John on sugar levels and what a healthy balanced lifestyle can do for his health. John has swapped from white breads and processed foods for a wider variety, including wholegrains and vegetables. His favourite meal these days is “sausages, pumpkin, spinach, mash potato
with onion gravy.”
He has been engaged in the process of meal planning and is even helping cook his own meals. “I’m making my own coffee and food and have my independence back.”
His next goal is “creating my own shopping list and learning new skills to shop independently.” Given how far he has come with the support of our staff, we have no doubt you’ll soon see John doing his own grocery shop very soon.
