Before coming to Cocoon SDA Care, Sophie* was housed in a secure psychiatric facility in Victoria for 18 months due to her high care needs. Determined to see Sophie live a more normalised life, our support team worked alongside her and put the necessary supports in place to successfully transition her out of institutional living and into the community.
Sophie had two big goals that she wanted to achieve – to read and write. Knowing how important this was to her, Sophie’s support team, in conjunction with her Occupational Therapist, have been helping her learn these fundamental skills. Sophie can now read some books and can write some words and sentences, and she remains devoted to her learning. Equipped with the support she requires; Sophie can now go out into the community to places that interest her. One of the places she really wanted to
visit was the Crown Casino.
As a young lady Sophie desperately wanted to experience going out, especially buying an outfit and getting all dressed up for a night on the town. With her Cocoon SDA Care support team, she has been able to do this and more. It is incredible to see how far Sophie has come with the right level of supports behind her.
