Unlocking Dreams and Independence

Before coming to Cocoon SDA Care, Sophie* was housed in a secure psychiatric facility in Victoria for 18 months due to her high care needs. Determined to see Sophie live a more normalised life, our support team worked alongside her and put the necessary support in place to successfully transition her out of institutional living and into the community.

Sophie had two big goals that she wanted to achieve – to read and write. Knowing how important this was to her, Sophie’s support team, in conjunction with her Occupational Therapist, has been helping her learn these fundamental skills. Sophie can now read some books and write some words and sentences and remains devoted to her learning.

Equipped with the support she requires, Sophie can now go to the community to places that interest her.

Sophie loves to experience going out, especially buying an outfit and getting all dressed up for a night on the town.

With her Cocoon SDA Care support team, she has been able to do this and more. It is incredible to see how far Sophie has come with the right level of support behind her.
